See follows, mentions, replies, reactions and reposts in one list, with grouped reposts and unread markers in the browser tab.
Choose which kinds of notifications are also sent to your email.
Filter or ignore notifications from people who are new, do not follow you, or you may not want to hear from.
Follow a post to be told about new replies, even if you are not mentioned.
Get alerts on your phone or desktop even when the site is closed, and manage the devices that receive them.
The site icon and the title of the browser tab now show when you have unread notifications.
You can see and manage the devices registered for push notifications, and the state of push permissions is clearer. The installed app shows a badge, and its launch and icon were fixed.
Clicking “Reposted by N users” in the notifications now lists who reposted the post, the way clicking “N users reacted” already listed who reacted.
Hear about replies to something you are not part of. Watching a post covers replies to that post; watching a thread covers every reply under it. Each reply arrives as its own notification type with its own switch, a busy thread folds into one grouped notification, and everything you watch is listed under a Watching tab beside your bookmarks.
Two notifications, Mastodon's admin.report and admin.sign_up, now go to every account that may moderate. A second report about an account that already has an unresolved one notifies nobody, so a pile-on does not become a pile of notifications.
New sign-up, in Settings → Notifications, offers a third answer beside all and none: only the sign-ups waiting for approval, which is what a moderator of a busy server with open registration usually wants to hear about. By default every sign-up is still announced, as on Mastodon.
Every follow used to produce “Follow request accepted”, including a follow to an open account that had nothing to approve. That notification is now kept for follows somebody actually had to approve; every other one gives “Follow confirmed”, which can be turned off on its own.
When a moderator blocks a whole server, every local account that had followers there, or followed somebody there, now gets a notification naming the server, with a count for each direction. Nothing said so before. Unlike Mastodon, the follows are not deleted: lifting the block brings them back.
When a moderator suspends an account, local or remote, everyone on the server who followed it or was followed by it gets a notification saying so and how many of their follows stopped working, as a server block already does. The follows are kept, so lifting the suspension restores them, and Mastodon apps receive it as severed relationships notifications.
Settings → Notifications → Filter notifications has six rules, such as people you don't follow, new accounts or unsolicited private mentions, each set to show, filter or ignore. Filtered notifications wait silently in their own list, grouped by account, to accept or dismiss, as in Mastodon, which apps reach through Mastodon's notification policy API.
You can now receive new followers, follow requests, mentions, reposts, reactions and moderation decisions by email, each with its own switch, with the same defaults as Mastodon. Mail goes only to a verified address for notifications still unread after a few seconds, at most 10 an hour, in your profile's language, with a one-click link to stop that kind.
Signed in with a Mastodon account on Mastodon 4.3 or later, Settings > Notifications now offers that server's notification policy, with the same choices as on Catodon, and filtered accounts wait in Filtered notifications to be accepted or dismissed. Two kinds Mastodon sends are now shown instead of dropped: broken follows after a server block, and moderation decisions, linked to the account's server where they can be appealed.
