What Catodon offers

Private accounts and follow requests

Approve each follower before they can see your followers-only posts.

Dave's follow requests: Carol asks to follow his private account, with Accept and Reject buttons.

Muting and blocking

Improved by Catodon

Hide or block accounts, mute their reposts, and (new) mute only their replies.

Part of Bob's profile menu: Hide from Following, Mute, Mute Reposts, then the new Mute Replies, Block and Remove follower.

Word mutes

Minimize or completely hide posts containing words or phrases you choose.

The Word filters section of Mutes and Blocks: what a filter is, a set of words with where it applies and what to do with a post that contains one, and a New filter button.

Muting and blocking servers

Improved by Catodon

Hide or block a whole server for your own account.

The Mutes and Blocks settings, with the tabs for muted and blocked accounts, word filters and servers.

Two-factor and passkeys

New in each version

A Blocked servers list in your own settings

26.10.0

Settings → Mutes and blocks gains a Blocked servers section beside the muted ones. It lists the servers you have blocked, unblocks them one by one, and takes a new host to block.

The Blocked Servers section of Mutes and blocks, listing two blocked servers above a field to block another one.

Blocking a server, beside muting it

26.10.0

A mute hides what a server sends you. A block also removes the follows in both directions, withdraws the requests waiting in either, and refuses new follows for as long as it lasts. That part cannot be undone, so a warning naming the server and counting what is about to go comes first.

The warning before blocking urusai.social: blocking it removes the follows in both directions and withdraws pending requests, unblocking does not bring them back, and here there is nothing to lose.

Word mutes become word filters

26.10.0

A filter now has a name, a set of words, the screens it applies on, what to do with a post that matches — fold it behind a notice, remove it, or cover its attachments and leave the text readable — and, if you want one, a date it stops. Your two existing lists become the first two filters, so nothing you already filter changes.

A word filter open in Mutes and blocks, with its name, words, whole-word option, where it applies, what it does to a match and when it expires.

Muting an account's replies

26.11.0

Beside Mute Reposts, an account's menu now has Mute Replies: its replies to other people leave every timeline, while its own posts, threads, reposts, replies to you and messages stay. Settings > Mutes and Blocks lists the accounts whose replies you muted, and apps have reply-mute/create, reply-mute/delete and reply-mute/list, with isReplyMuted on a user's relation.

Part of Bob's profile menu: Hide from Following, Mute, Mute Reposts, then the new Mute Replies, Block and Remove follower.

Blocking servers from a Mastodon account

26.11.0

Signed in to Catodon with a Mastodon account, a remote account's menu now offers Block this server, and Settings > Mutes and Blocks lists the blocked servers with a field to add one. Blocks go through Mastodon's own domain blocks, so they are the same ones Mastodon's apps show, and what they do beyond hiding is up to the account's server. It is offered on Mastodon since 1.4, Akkoma and compatible servers.
