Catodon, under its own name

Interface and accessibility

The project now carries the Catodon name throughout: in the browser shell, the setup flow, the about pages, the images and the package metadata.

The About Catodon page: the Catodon cat and wordmark, the version number, and the line describing Catodon as a Fediverse platform.

Catodon’s own interface defaults

Interface and accessibility

Catodon starts with defaults of its own: a rounded interface, simpler wording, a new order in the navigation and a reworked post form. The onboarding and the tutorial are written for Catodon.

Better timelines and navigation

Posts and timelines

Timelines can have custom addresses, and Home gains controls for mutual followers and for including this server’s public posts. The Accounts timeline was worked on, timeline tabs behave better, and the scroll position and focus are restored when you come back.

The Options menu of the Home timeline, with switches for what Home includes, such as all public posts of this server.

A cache for external media, and GIFs from Klipy

Media and emoji

External media is kept in a cache whose size can be set and which is cleared out periodically. GIFs can now be added from Klipy.

The Files section of the Control Panel, with the External files cache and its cache size limit in GB.

Unread notifications shown in the browser tab

Notifications

The site icon and the title of the browser tab now show when you have unread notifications.

Preferences backed up from the start

Accounts and profiles

Your preferences are backed up automatically once you sign up, and backing them up to the server and restoring them works better.

The settings overview recommending to turn on the automatic backup of settings for this device, with Enable and Skip.

Date formats, larger text and easier navigation

Interface and accessibility

You can choose how dates and times are written, and larger font sizes are available for accessibility. Navigating on mobile and with the keyboard has improved too.

The Date and time select of the settings open, offering several ways of writing the same date and time.

Safer defaults

Server administration

Several protections are now on by default: a warning before an external link is opened, a stricter upload from a web address, visibility checks when posts are delivered to timelines and over WebSocket, and safer settings for where the server listens.
